The revamp follows criticism that some universities are using their own admission formulas that are confusing students when choosing programs in which to enroll.

The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority said it reached a consensus with the universities on the new grades.
Secretary-general Tong Chong-sze said HKDSE candidates will be given more details when the results are announced in July, such as the total marks of the best five subjects.

A spokeswoman for the University of Hong Kong welcomed the decision, saying it will help students in choosing programs.
"In fact, we have a similar conversion formula," she said. "Last year, we already listed the highest and lowest admission grades for each program."

Hong Kong Polytechnic University said it has recently reviewed and introduced a new admission formula that will be announced on its website as soon as possible.

To make it more convenient for exam markers, the authority will open two more assessment centers in Tseung Kwan O and Sha Tin for April and June.

Meanwhile, the authority and Education Bureau will announce the report on the review of the new senior secondary academic structure next month.

The proposals will be implemented for Secondary Four students in the next academic year. Writes Beatrice Siu for The Standard.
