A delegation, consisting of senior officials from higher education body from Pakistan visited the UK in January, 2018 to explore opportunities in the field of research and partnerships with UK educational and related institutions.

With an objective to improve the quality of higher education in Pakistan, British Council along with the officials from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and key stakeholders from the UK discussed how they could identify education programmes and areas of international research which can work as a catalyst in the advancement of higher education in Pakistan. 

During this visit to the UK, representatives from HEC and the British Council Pakistan, had meetings with various stakeholders, policy and decision makers in London which included industry partners and employers, and private, public and non-profit sectors. Focal area of discussion during these meetings revolved around the challenges Pakistan is facing in the field of education and possible collaborative solutions by developing a ‘Pakistan-UK Education Gateway’: to facilitate comprehensive programmes to help build the capacity of higher education institutions in Pakistan.

 Rosemary Hilhorst, the country director for British Council Pakistan said, “The PAK-UK gateway has immense potential for knowledge exchange both ways. Many stakeholders who are here today have already worked in Pakistan and I hope that you will be able to encourage others in the field to collaborate too.”

British Council Pakistan strives to support universities, institutions and other education decision makers in their advancement and partnership development strategies to consequently strengthen collaboration within local universities and UK institutions.
