Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) is investing approximately 50% on scholarships for Pakistani students to study in local institutions, with a focus to provide the talent pool of aspirants from Pakistan with the best educational environment and opportunities.

The Chairman of Higher Education Commission Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said these scholarships are a top priority in an effort to facilitate aspirants.

Speaking about the impact these scholarships will have on collaboration with international universities, he said that Pakistan’s higher education system is highly appreciated by the international universities and as a result to strengthen educational ties, scholarships are being offered by them to Pakistani students as well. Chevening programme provides immediate benefits for individual scholars by enhancing future career prospects and development.

He continued to share that Higher Education Commission is funding the new opportunities for local universities on precedence to improve quality of education so that Pakistan may progress as a nation.

To conclude he said the HEC is reviewing education related concerns in consultation with all governors of the provinces and all higher educational institutions to streamline and improve higher education opportunities in Pakistan.

Trans-national education (TNE) is a growing market in Pakistan and recent data shows evidence of over 40 such programs running successfully in affiliation with British universities at undergraduate and graduate levels, according to the British Council. Overall, the UK takes about 65 per cent of the TNE market in Pakistan, at a clear majority.
