A global leap for Pakistan’s youngest social entrepreneur

Zymal Umar, at the age of nine, is the founder of Zee Bags – an innovative social project that aims to support underprivileged children and contribute to a neat and green Pakistan.

The core objective of her project was to replace use of plastics bags with reusable and recyclable material – newspapers.

Deep into this initiative, Zymal has sold hundreds of bags and directed the profits to local NGOs to buy essential items for underprivileged children. With the support of her parents she has been able to find a balance between her school life at Beacon House School System and entrepreneurship.

To her credit, she has been awarded the TIE’s startup Cup Pakistan 2016 as the youngest startup award and received a gold medal from the Federal Secretary of Education in Pakistan. Her efforts have also been recognised in Saudi Arabia, where she was invited to receive the Prince Abdul Aziz Award for Children Pioneer/Ecopreneur.

Her future aspiration is to pursue higher education and promote her project at a global level. She plans to launch a website and mobile application to increase her audience reach. Zymal’s project can be viewed at her Facebook page, Zee Bags.
