Final year university examinations to be held in September 2020
On 6 July 2020, the University Grants Commissions (UGC) released revised guidelines on examinations and the academic calendar for Indian universities. As per the new guidelines, final year examinations are to be conducted by end of September 2020 through offline/online or blended mode. As a one-time solution for students who are unable to appear in examination for any reason at this time, they will be given opportunity to appear for exams later conducted by the university whenever feasible.
Prior to this announcement many states like Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, West Bengal among others had cancelled university examinations. After this latest move by UGC states are reconsidering their previous decision except Maharashtra, the worst hit state by pandemic.
A request to review this decision has been made to Prime Minister in view of growing COVID-19 pandemic.
The UGC have said that evaluation of students through exams is important as it builds their confidence and credibility and “necessary for global acceptance”. The guidelines seem flexible on mode of conducting the exams though it has made evaluation compulsory as per the press release. States are yet to announce their decisions on this.
