FATA University (Federally Administered Tribal Areas), situated in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be the first-ever university to open in tribal areas of Pakistan in 2017.

The Vice-Chancellor,  Mr. Tahir, announced that admissions will be on the basis of open merit system open to Pakistani nationals only either from tribal areas or students from any part of the country.

He added that, the university will commence its academic function in September 2016 at its makeshift campus in Degree College, Darra Adamkhel and expand in 2017 to its university campuses in postgraduate colleges of Khar in Bajaur Agency, Miranshah in North Waziristan Agency and Parachinar in Kurram Agency.

Initially, the university will introduce four taught subjects; Computer Sciences and Information Technology, Earth Sciences, Electronics and Chemistry and will gradually refresh its course portfolio as per requirements.

In respect to promoting quality education to the aspirants through faculty development programmes, Mr Tahir said that FATA university will send 20 faculty members abroad for their PhD.
