Direct subsidy scheme schools in bid to raise tuition fees

Of Hong Kong’s 80 direct subsidy scheme (DSS) secondary schools, at least 24 have put in proposals to the Education Bureau to raise tuition fees by up to 10%. These schools receive partial funding from the Hong Kong government. Some schools have proposed that raising the current tuition fees will allow them to employ more native English-speaking teachers and keep in line with inflation of the local economy. The Education Bureau will need to analyse these schools’ accounts before approving the fee increases, write Dennis Chong and Johnny Tam for South China Morning Post.
