Debt, jobs, diversity and who gets in: A survey of admissions directors

Inside Higher Ed in collaboration with Gallup has released a report detailing the results from a joint survey of college and university admissions directors. The survey collected responses from 576 admissions directors (or equivalents) on the topics of student debt, employability, and diversity as factors in the admissions process.

Some of the biggest findings indicated wide support for “gapping” (offering students aid packages that are not sufficient to cover the entire cost of enrolment), recognition of increased demand – predominantly by parents – for student employability prospects, and a strong desire to maintain affirmative action or similar diversity filters in the admissions process. In addition, the report highlights many other survey findings related to the admissions process, ranging from topics such as falsified rankings to the role of merit scholarships.

A summary of the report is available on the Insider Higher Ed website and can be accessed by clicking here. Details on how to download a free copy of the report are available in the article.
