China’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security have jointly announced the second week of May as “National Vocational Education Week”. The first “Education Week” events will be launched in Beijing Vocational College of Transportation and various levels of vocational schools will hold events like open houses and experimental activities for primary and secondary school students, parents and local residents. Schools are also encouraged to invite renowned companies to share industry knowledge and prospects, as well as conduct recruitment briefings and promotions for attracting new students. This is to become an annual event, held in the second week of May each year.

The “National Vocational Education Week” is an official campaign managed by the two Ministries and will attract mass media coverage on promoting vocational education sector nationwide. It is also a platform for local vocational schools to publicise their teaching and student strengths, including those of their joint programmes with overseas partners. As this is to become a regular annual event, future vocational education weeks could become a good opportunity for UK institutions to jointly raise the profile of their TNE programmes with local vocational partners and share their successful experience of industry-oriented courses.
