China to continue its support towards Sri Lanka’s development

The government of China has pledged an additional £114 million towards development activities in Sri Lanka, in addition to the £45 million already provided. These development activities will be spread over a variety of sectors and investments during 2018 – 2020.

The off-shore financial city, or more commonly referred to as the ‘Port City Project’ is part of the One Belt One Road programme and is being developed through Chinese government assistance. With a vision of building a world class city for South Asia and its most liveable city, the port city will provide the highest quality commercial, entertainment medical, education and lifestyle opportunities. The development will comprise of 5 different environs including the Financial District, Central Park Living, Island Living, The Marina and the International Island.

When completed, the Port City will have over 5.6 million square meters of built space offering world class facilities and spaces in Healthcare, Education, Entertainment, Hotels and Restaurants, Retail and Office with an integrated resort and a marina.
