Changes around English language scholarships

The Ministry of Higher Education has announced a call for proposals regarding in country institutions that teach the English language.

"The Ministry of Higher Education has an annual program for external scholarships, in which around 1,600 students holding the General Diploma Certificate with high achievement are selected to attend undergraduate programs delivered in English at foreign universities."

"Most of these universities require an English level of 5.5 in IELTS, or equivalent tests as part of entry requirements into foundation programs," the Ministry explained.

According to the Ministry, an average of 1,000 students a year would require in country training to improve their English proficiency and achieve the required level.

The Ministry of Higher Education plans to start an English language program for the 2018/2019 academic year, in order to prepare students locally, before their entry into foundation programs abroad.

"MoHE therefore invites interested higher education institutions and language institutions (HEI/LIs) in the Sultanate of Oman to provide their proposals to offer an English language program in Oman for external scholarship students."
