Canada to grant permanent residency to international students

Canadian Immigration Minister, John McCallum has announced the Canadian Government will make it easier for international students to obtain permanent residency in Canada.

He further emphasised that International students are the best source of immigrants as they are young, educated, and proficient in either English or French and know a bit about the country. Hence the government should take steps to ensure they stay back in the country.

In order to implement this, a few reforms will be needed to the existing system. McCallum said the federal government will work with the provincial governments to make the required reforms.

With this move from the Canadian government, it is predicted that more Indian students may prefer Canada for higher education as it will now afford the added attraction of acquiring residency. However, UK institutions continue to lead with regards to the legacy, quality of education and proximity to India. This calls for increased interaction with students in India to engage them with Education opportunities in the UK.
