British Council SIEM in Kazakhstan fosters international educational links

The British Council SIEM In Kazakhstan is proud to report that the UK-KAZAKHSTAN UNIVERSITY FORUM, organised by the UK Pavilion at Expo Astana 2017, the British Council and the Ministry for Education and Science of Kazakhstan, was considered a success by all parties involved. Organised as a part of a global Expo Astana 2017, this international event was aimed to facilitate new cooperation links between the UK and Kazakhstani universities, to bring the representatives of the two markets together and discuss some of the opportunities for collaboration between higher education institutions in both countries, as well as possible solutions to current challenges.

The Forum was attended by an impressive number of 64 representatives of 37 Kazakhstani and UK Universities. Panel included representatives of University Alliance, University of Reading, University of Leicester, University of Manchester. Kazakhstani side was represented by Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan, Atyrau State University Nazarbayev University, and other.

Panel members discussed opportunities in creating partnerships between UK and Kazakhstani universities, including student and staff mobility, joint programmes, trans-national education, research and science collaboration. One of the most interesting topics during the discussion was opportunities of cooperation with universities from regions of Kazakhstan. Participants agreed that often universities limit their partnership opportunities by big cities like Almaty and Astana, while missing opportunities arising around ambitious and dynamic regional universities.

Forum participants reflected that the event enabled them to find out more about the main priorities of their partners when creating international partnerships. Also, they were able to get a clearer picture of higher education situation in UK and Kazakhstan. The UK Universities representatives gave a similarly positive feedback.

British Council SIEM in Kazakhstan will be happy to facilitate further cooperation between education sectors of both countries.
