The British Council IELTS Scholarships scheme was first introduced in 2015 with an aim to make foreign education more accessible to Bangladeshi students. Overwhelmed by the response, the scheme was re-launched in August 2016 to continue to support IELTS candidates in achieving their dreams of a foreign education. Last year, five winners from across the country were awarded a scholarship worth BDT 300,000 each. Study destinations include UK, Australia, Malaysia and Germany. 

This year, with British Council IELTS Scholarships 2018, we are also making this scholarship available to students who are planning to pursue their higher education in Bangladesh. We are offering three scholarships worth BDT 300,000 each to study abroad and four scholarships worth BDT 150,000 each to study in country. The core ethos of this scheme is to enhance ‘access to higher education’, thus building the foundation for a stable, economically prosperous and more equal Bangladesh.  

Eligibility Criteria

INTERNATIONAL – FOR STUDENTS PLANNING TO STUDY ABROAD

• a Bangladeshi national
• for Undergraduate or Postgraduate studies
• has taken IELTS with the British Council between September 2017 and March 2018
• overall IELTS band score of 6.0 and above
• the institution requires IELTS as an admission criterion
• scholarships will be tenable for Sept 2018 and Jan 2019 intakes
• one scholarship is reserved for the UK 

NATIONAL – FOR STUDENTS PLANNING TO STUDY IN BANGLADESH 

• a Bangladeshi national
• for Undergraduate or Postgraduate studies
• has taken IELTS with the British Council between September 2017 and March 2018
• overall IELTS band score of 6.0 and above

Application process 

• Take IELTS at a British Council Bangladesh Test Centre and receive your scores
• Download and complete the application form from the downloads section of the page
• Attach a copy of your IELTS Test Report Form (TRF)
• Send it to the British Council by email or post – please refer to the following section 

Application submission

You can send your completed application form along with a copy of your IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) to ieltsscholarships@bd.britishcouncil.org

Alternatively, applicants can send hard copies of the application to British Council offices across Bangladesh. 

Deadline to make application is 31 March 2018.
