Bangladesh HSC results show better performance than last year

The pass percentage of this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams has improved to 72.47 per cent, which is 6.63 per cent higher from last year. The number of GPA-5 achievers has also shown an increasing trend, from last year’s 34,721 students to 48,950 students this year.

HSC examinees this year will get their marks for the first time since the introduction of the grading system 13 years ago. This year’s results show that the average pass rate in English has risen significantly in all boards.

Poor performance in English last year, brought the marks down, which has been addressed with better marks in English this year.

The success of this year's HSC examinees may lead students to consider higher studies abroad. Bangladesh is still struggling to keep up with the high demand for higher education in country and demand for an overseas education is being fuelled by a supply-demand gap at home, but also by concerns about quality in Bangladeshi higher education and by subsequent issues around employability. Bangladesh HEIs indicate capacity crunch at home, which presents an opportunity for UK HEIs to recruit students keen to study abroad.
