American Council on Education Recommends 5 MOOCs for Credit

The American Council on Education (ACE) has endorsed five Massive Open Online Courses offered by Coursera. The five courses are:

  • "Introduction to Genetics and Evolution" – Duke University
  • "Bioelectricity: A Quantitative Approach" – Duke University. "Pre-Calculus" – University of California, Irvine
  • "Algebra," – University of California, Irvine.
  • "Calculus: Single-Variable," – University of Pennsylvania

ACE required each course to be reviewed by two independent faculty members who examined course structure, methodology, and anti-cheating measures among other things.

The ACE endorsement means that the organization believes higher education institutions could accept these courses for credit without risking program quality or integrity; however, universities and colleges who are ACE members have no obligation to follow the ACE suggestions.
