An accreditation council for public, private universities of Bangladesh

A cabinet meeting chaired by the honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the draft rules of Accreditation Council Act-2016 on March 28 , at the Secretariat with the aim of improving standards of higher education and upgrading educational institutions to international standards.

A Chairman is to be appointed by the government to head the Accreditation Council with representatives from University Grants Commission, Ministry of Education, representatives from professional bodies and other organisations.

“This is an epoch-making law to ensure the quality and standard of higher education,” Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters. 

Accreditation body will assess the quality of higher education provided by the public and private universities. This will help in the close monitoring of the HE institutions, which will help in improving the quality of HE in Bangladesh and thus HE institutions will be able to maintain a standard compatible with international institutions.
