Some 122 students recently graduated from universities in Canada, Australia and the UK, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced on Wednesday.

The students gained bachelor’s and master’s degrees in more than 30 specialities in engineering, medicine, management, law, media, accounting and arts and education.

"The ministry and its cultural attache offices within the embassies of the UAE abroad are responsible for serving students with services such as scholarship disbursement, academic monitoring and advice, as we ensure the welfare of the students while enrolled in their programmes of study. The cultural division has also played a vital role in introducing the UAE’s heritage and traditions throughout several activities and festivals held abroad," Saif Al Mazroui, assistant undersecretary of institutional and support services at the ministry, said.

Emirati students were part of the UAE-UK pioneers forum, the first careers fair for both British and Emirati students seeking to meet the UAE and UK’s leading employers.

The number of students from the UAE studying in the US increased from 2,097 in 2011-2012 to 2,256 in 2012-2013, an increase of 7.6 per cent, according to the latest US report on international academic mobility.

Since 2009-2010, this number has grown by over 40 per cent. According to a recent report released by the British Council, there were 3,145 students studying in the UK in 2011, which represents an increase of 126 per cent since 2002.

The recent move to simplify UK visas for Emiratis has also boosted bonds between the two countries.
