A dipstick student survey explores impact on plans to study in the UK with India placed in the UK’s red list countries

In April 2021 the UK added India to the country’s “red list” of countries severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The British Council carried out a dipstick survey on prospective students who initially planned to study in the UK to ascertain their awareness of these rules and how it might affect their decision and plans to go ahead. Overall, the results show high awareness levels which can be associated to the focussed and considered communications campaign which built on suggestions from the previous student perception research. In addition, three out of every five students surveyed expressed intent to continue with their study plans in the UK in 2021 signalling confidence felt towards arrangements and support from the UK universities. The numbers are higher for undergraduate students in comparison to postgraduates. The most significant concern highlighted by all students was quarantine-related expenses
